The İşbank 19th İstanbul Half Marathon, where the first international athletics record was set in Türkiye, will take place on Sunday, April 28 this year. The press conference for the race, one of the four half marathons in Europe's “Gold Label" category, took place at the İstanbul Metropolitan Municipality Maltepe Kenan Onuk Athletics Center.
The 19th İstanbul Half Marathon, organized by Spor İstanbul, a subsidiary of İstanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İMM), will be held on Sunday, April 28, along the Historic Peninsula route.
The marathon, dubbed “The Fastest Half," has received record applications. Registration reached 16 thousand this year, up from 12 thousand last year.
The press conference for the İstanbul Half Marathon, sponsored by İşbank in honor of its 100th anniversary, took place at the İMM Maltepe Kenan Onuk Athletics Track.
Can Akın Çağlar, Secretary General of İstanbul Metropolitan Municipality; İ. Renay Onur, General Manager of Spor İstanbul; Fatih Çintimar, President of the Turkish Athletics Federation; and Sezgin Lüle, İşbank Executive Vice President, were among the speakers at the event, which was attended by numerous guests and members of the media.
ANOTHER FIRST IN TÜRKİYE
The 19th İşbank İstanbul Half Marathon, renowned globally for Kenyan Ruth Chepngetich's record-breaking run in 2021 with a remarkable time of 1:04:02, will etch another milestone in history by being the first 21K marathon open to athletes aged 16 and above in Türkiye. In previous years, the minimum age requirement was set at 18 years and above. Canada, Malta, and the Virgin Islands will be making their debut appearances in the half marathon this year. A total of 72 different countries will be participating in the marathon.
